Shotover Jet!

On our last full day in Queenstown, we slept in and watched a few holes of the Masters (apparently the best 30 minutes of it!), did free laundry at the hotel, picked up a few souvenirs downtown, and did an afternoon thrill ride on the Shotover Jet. The Shotover river is located in the canyons about 10-15 minutes outside of the city. The company owns the rights to the river, so no other boats can occupy this section of the river.

The jet boat was one of our highlights in Queenstown. At speeds of up to 85 kmh and coming with centimeters of the canyon walls while doing dozens of 360 degree spins, it's easy to see why! We got to sit in front and I really enjoyed being on the side of the boat so I got a real feel (and sometimes a wee scare) for how close we got to the edges of the canyon walls.
The ride was about 30 minutes long and I was absolutely soaked afterwards. Not sure how Dave escaped with only a few drops on him! We don't normally fall prey to paying for the professional pictures on tours, but we couldn't resist getting the video of this! We wanted all of our friends and family to see what a thrill this was. It's only a few minute clip, but it gives you a good idea of what the half-hour ride was like. Truly a rush! (Just click on the play button of the video below to watch).
