Attack of the sandflies!

We had been warned of sandflies numerous times from the locals, but since we had escaped thus far with only mosquito bites, we had no reason to believe they were telling us the truth. That is until we hit the west coast!

Look close, is that a rock or an egg in the nest?
All along the west coast, there were rocks and sticks arranged to tell stories and perhaps just to be pieces of art. We found it unique and wanted a picture. So we pull over to snap a few photos and as I open my door, one million little biting sandflies came flying towards me. My first instinct wasn't to shut the door, but rather to hurry and snap a few photos and race back to the car.

West Coast "art"
Well that was a horrible mistake. The door couldn't have been open for more than 15 seconds, but it was enough for Mr. Sandfly and every one of his cousins to fly into the front seats. I swear we were swatting sandflies for the next hour. We became so itchy and mental I think we were swatting non-existent flies by the end of the day!
