Castlewood Canyon

On day 2 of our 4 day weekend, we spent the afternoon hiking at Castlewood Canyon.  It was extremely windy, so we thought a canyon hike would suit us best.  We have already done most of the hikes on the East side of the park, so we chose a loop hike on the West side.  It took us through a little waterfall, the canyon walls, a historic dam, and up to the top of the canyon walls on the Rimrock trail.  Despite the winds, it was still pretty warm and the girls enjoyed a dip in the creek afterwards.

A Day In Denver

We started our 4 day Memorial Day weekend by spending the day in Denver.  We took Kyle to the Zoo where he had a blast watching the bird show, the flamingos, and staring at the baby monkeys playing.  I think he could've stood and watched them chase eachother for hours-- hands down, his favorite exhibit this visit.  For dinner, we went to the (in)famous Casa Bonita. It's a Mexican restaurant/funhouse filled with cliff divers, live music, haunted caves, gun shows, and pretty decent food.  We got our fill of tacos, enchiladas, and soapillas before wandering around through all the entertainment.  Kyle stood on the pool rocks and watched cliff divers (he kept asking to stay for ONE MORE SHOW, hehe).  It was a late night (Kyle was up 2 hours later than usual, gasp!) but it was a great day and wonderful start to our long weekend together.

Thought I should capture how Kyle gets on his rocker and his retro rocket. He mounts onto the seat on his knees and then puts his legs down. Course that is fine and all when he isn't doing it to "climb" up something else. Picture to come on that later... But for now, here's a video of his mounting techniques.

Belly Slide

Kyle climbed up the playground equipment all by himself and even figured out how to rotate and go down feet first on his belly. Here's a video of his first time doing so. As with anything Kyle does, once he figured it out, he repeated it 100 times.

May Days Part II

Proof that sometimes Kyle does nap at daycare although it's usually right when I arrive to pick him up for the day!

Kyle got croup again late last week.  We knew the signs and how to handle it so we immediately went in and got him steroids and a nebulizer.  They helped within minutes!

And within a day, he was back at it!  Here he is enjoying playing with Aspen's toys at her first birthday party:

Course his stamina is still making its way back.  He got so exhausted that in the middle of dinner out to eat, he crashed and leaned over to rest in my arms.

By the end of the weekend, he was nearly 100%.  We spent the afternoon at Grandma and Grandpas house where Kyle got reunited with the toy he discovered at Uncle Brian and Aunt Ania's house (Grandma found a used one at a kid store!).

And we ended the weekend at Kieran's 4th birthday party at Lil' Monkey Bizness.  For Kyle, I think this was the Happiest Place on Earth.  Both Dave and I thought that he wouldn't have too much fun because he isn't walking yet, but we were proven completely wrong.  We've never seen him have so much fun!  He was able to climb up all the toys and even go down the slide (feet first on his belly) all by himself.  What a smart boy.

 

 

 

They have a dedicated crawlers area, but this proved too boring for Kyle.  He wanted to play on all the big kid equipment.  We will definitely be back!

 

May Days Part I

So I'm rather behind on blogging, so here's a random sampling of photos from the past couple weeks:


Rainy days are best for arts and crafts.  Kyle enjoys the q-tip paints and crayons... although sometimes he likes to taste them.  Sigh.

Might not be the next Picasso but you know this got hung on our fridge and will be saved.

This is pretty much the only way I get dinner on the table each night... by letting Kyle dirty up a few pots and pans.

Oh, and we recently played in a golf tourney.  Dave and I's team won and I nearly had a hole-in-one.  It had the perfect line and was just ever so slightly too fast.  Hit the pin head-on but didn't drop.  Easy birdies are your friend though.  It was miserably cold but we had a good time.

Grandma babysat Kyle while we golfed and she bought him over the Mickey I had growing up to get Kyle ready and excited for our trip to Disneyland.

We spent an afternoon at Grandma and Grandpa's house celebrating Grandpa's 55th birthday.  Somehow they got confused on whose birthday it was and Kyle got a few new gifts.  Hmmm.  He sure loved taking the golf club all over their house swatting at things.

 

The kid has been going through a growth spurt eating everything in sight.  Here he is enjoying dinner at Parkway.  Can't say I blame him for pigging out there!
